CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW PUPPY!

Welcome to our clinic, and congratulations on your new puppy! We're excited to partner with you in giving your newest family member a happy, healthy start. Below you'll find helpful resources covering essential topics like puppy vaccination options, heartworm prevention, flea and tick protection as well as guidance on socialization and training. These early steps play a vital role in your puppy's long-term wellbeing, and we're here to support you every step of the way.

VACCINES

Vaccinating your puppy is one of the most important steps you can take to protect their health and set the foundation for a long, happy life. Puppies are especially vulnerable to serious, and sometimes life-threatening, diseases in their early months. Core vaccines help defend against highly contagious illnesses, while lifestyle-based vaccines provide additional protection tailored to your puppy's environment and activities. By staying on a recommended vaccination schedule, you not only safeguard your own pet but also help prevent the spread of disease within the wider pet community.

You will find information below regarding the vaccinations we offer at Companion Animal Hospital.

MICROCHIPPING

Scanning-a-Dog.jpg

Microchipping is a simple, safe, and permanent way to help ensure your pet can be identified and returned to you if they ever become lost. The microchip, about the size of a grain of rice, is placed just under your puppy's skin and contains a unique ID number than can be read by veterinary clinics and animal shelters. Unlike collars and tags, which can fall off or be removed, a microchip provides lifelong identification. Keeping your contact information up to date in the microchip registry is essential, giving you peace of mind and greatly increasing the chances of a happy reunion.

At Companion Animal Hospital we use the AKC Reunite Microchip you can click below for more information.

PREVENTATIVES

Preventative care is essential to keeping your puppy healthy. Heartworm disease is transmitted through mosquito bites and can lead to serious, potentially life-threatening complications if left untreated. Fleas and ticks not only cause discomfort but can also spread harmful diseases. Fortunately, safe and effective preventative options are available to protect your puppy year-round. Our team can help you choose the best products based on your pet's lifestyle and risk factors ensuring they stay comfortable, healthy and protected.

The Companion Animal Parasite Council provides visual maps of the prevalence of these parasites in our areas.

Listed below are some of the options we carry in clinic:

  • Simparica Trio - Monthly all in one option which protects against heartworm, fleas, ticks, roundworms and hookworms.

  • Heartgard Plus - Monthly prevention against heartworm as well treatment for roundworms and hookworms.

  • Nexgard - Monthly chew protects against fleas and ticks.

SOCIALIZATION
&

TRAINING

Socialization and training are just as important to your puppy's development as their physical health - think of them as a kind of "behavioral vaccination" for the future. Early, positive exposure to new people, pets, environments, and experiences helps build confidence and reduces the risk of fear, anxiety, and unwanted behaviors later in life. Consistent, reward-based training also strengthens the bond between you and your puppy while teaching essential skills for everyday life. Investing time in these early experiences sets the stage for a well-adjusted, happy companion.
